Paul Bik is a Milan-based interior designer and an artist whose style references Italian spatialism and architecture of 50’s and 60’s.
Imperfect geometries, contrasting symmetries and concentricity are reoccurring themes that take shape in various mediums including painting, drawing, installation, collage and photography. His works are relief paintings created in his own mixed media technique in which he physically treats layers of cut cardboard as canvas - sizing, sanding and priming it - on which he creates extruded paintings. Using both acrylic and oil paints, Bik plays with not only line, color and texture, but also sculpting his compositions with light and shadows. Using varying scales, materials, finishes and colors, these works demonstrate an investigation in surface and form through abstract repetition.
